The Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030 represent not only a sporting and diplomatic success for Kosovo but also one of the country’s most economically impactful projects to date. Hosting this major event is expected to generate significant investments in infrastructure, including the construction and modernization of sports facilities, roads, public transport, and hotel capacities, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs during the preparation years.

Kushtrim Krasniqi, spokesperson for the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, told KosovaPress that during the two weeks of the Mediterranean Games, Kosovo will gain substantial financial benefits.

“Of course, every team coming to the Mediterranean Games in Kosovo will need accommodation. Apart from the Mediterranean Village where athletes, officials, delegations, journalists, and other guests will stay, they will also be accommodated in hotels or various apartments. All of this will benefit hotel owners, Kosovo as a country, as well as gastronomy, hospitality, and other sectors. These benefits are not limited to sports but also tourism, because during the two weeks of the Games, visitors will spend money here, leaving it in Kosovo. This will generate considerable revenue for the state, and we may also gain as a country through different projects and donations, such as the student center in Pristina and other contributions from international organizations that may invest directly in the Mediterranean Games,” Krasniqi explained.

One of the main economic benefits is the boost to tourism and the international promotion of Kosovo. During the Games, tens of thousands of athletes, delegations, media representatives, and fans from Mediterranean countries are expected to visit, significantly increasing activity in the hospitality, gastronomy, and service sectors.

“Consider the other infrastructure that will be built here. It will certainly improve our international image, not only because of the Mediterranean Games, but also because other international sports competitions will be held in Kosovo. This enhances our image as a country and increases benefits in tourism, hotels, gastronomy, and more. So, the advantage is not only for sports but also for other sectors, improving Kosovo’s international reputation. These are benefits that we will see the value of in the future,” he added.

Krasniqi also noted that Kosovo aims to set an example as a host for the Mediterranean Games.

“Our goal is for Kosovo to be an example of how to organize the Mediterranean Games for other countries that will host similar events. This is the main purpose—not only as an example for the Games or the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games, but also for other sports. The Mediterranean Games will serve as a reference for federations seeking to host major events in Kosovo,” Krasniqi stated.

In the long term, the economic legacy of the Mediterranean Games is expected to be even greater. Sports facilities and infrastructure will serve other international events, attract new investments, and contribute to the urban development of Pristina and surrounding regions. Through Prishtina 2030, Kosovo aims to position itself as a reliable destination for major sporting and cultural events, turning sports into a key pillar for economic growth and enhancing the country’s international image.
