Eight years have passed since the untimely death of Kosovo football legend Fadil Vokrri, a figure who left an indelible mark both on the pitch and in the institutional history of sport in Kosovo.
Vokrri, who passed away on June 9, 2018, at the age of 57, is widely regarded as the greatest footballer Kosovo has ever produced and one of the most important figures in the journey of Kosovo football toward international recognition.
The former striker of FC Prishtina, FK Partizan and Fenerbahçe S.K. served as president of the Football Federation of Kosovo during the period when Kosovo achieved its historic membership in UEFA and FIFA in 2016. For many, he remains a symbol of Kosovo football and the man who turned the dream of Kosovo’s representation on the international stage into reality. On the anniversary of his death, the president of the Football Federation of Kosovo, Agim Ademi, published a commemorative message, describing Vokrri as a figure who has become part of Kosovo’s identity.
“Eight years without the Legend of Number 9. There are names that do not belong only to history, but become part of a nation’s identity. One such name is undoubtedly Fadil Vokrri,” Ademi wrote. He emphasized that Vokrri was the greatest footballer Kosovo produced in the 1980s and that the number 9, which he proudly wore throughout his career, has become forever linked with his name and legacy.According to Ademi, Vokrri was not only an extraordinary goalscorer and football icon, but also the man who believed in Kosovo’s dream when it seemed unattainable.
“From his achievements on the pitch to leading Kosovo football toward membership in UEFA and FIFA, he left a legacy that will never fade,” Ademi stressed.
The FFK chief added that Vokrri remains an inspiration, a source of pride, and a permanent part of Kosovo football’s identity. “Forever in our memories. Forever a Legend,” he concluded.
