Izet Mexhiti reveals whether he was involved in securing votes for Albin Kurti
The Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Izet Mexhiti, is calling for the swift establishment of Kosovo’s new institutions.
According to him, overcoming the political deadlock is in the interest of the state and its integration processes. He emphasized the need to move forward in this regard.
Speaking to KosovaPress, Mexhiti denied any involvement in securing votes for the election of Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker of the Assembly from the Vetëvendosje Movement, despite claims made by AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj.
The Kosovo Assembly has failed for the 35th time to constitute its ninth legislature, even though more than four months have passed since the February 9 parliamentary elections.
Mexhiti told
KosovaPress that he does not know the MP from the Gorani community, Adem Hoxha, about whom Haradinaj claimed Mexhiti had requested a vote in favor of Haxhiu and Kurti. Regarding MP Duda Balje from the Bosniak community, he stated that he had no meeting with her about securing her vote for forming a Vetëvendosje-led parliamentary majority.
“In the interest of Kosovo, the state, its processes, and businesses, I hope the deadlock will be overcome quickly, the institutions will be constituted, and progress will be made... In North Macedonia, we have a partnership with Mr. Kurti, and I’ve been in politics for a long time. I have friends in all political parties, and what has been said about the two MPs (Adem Hoxha and Duda Balje) is completely untrue. I don’t know one of them at all, and we’ve never met, while I saw that Ms. Balje said we’ve had no meeting in this regard. Everything else is speculation,” he said.
Mexhiti also spoke about bilateral relations, emphasizing that ties between the two countries are deepening. He mentioned the implementation of the “One Stop Shop” system at the Bllacë and Jazhincë border points.
According to him, this system will soon be implemented with Serbia as well, benefiting citizens from the Presevo Valley, as well as Albania.

“This problem is not new — it dates back to post-war Kosovo. Serbia, as an Interpol member, abuses this mechanism by updating lists to accuse people of war crimes. The new government in Macedonia is dealing with inherited problems... In principle, we have a political agreement in government, and now only the implementation remains. There is no formal document, just as many European countries do not have one, due to Interpol membership. A practical and legal solution will be implemented soon to avoid such arrests,” he concluded.
