The threat posed by fake news is global and everyone is threatened by disinformation. It is a necessity of time for every person to be equipped with media knowledge.
This was said today in Prizren, during the lectures with students and representatives of the secondary school level, on the topic "Misinformation, disinformation and malicious information", within the project "Media education for teachers and students of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities ".

During this workshop, the students had the opportunity to conduct different activities related to the topic, and also show different situations that have been influenced by the misinformation they have encountered in the media. Also, they say that such workshops are always welcome.

Shyret Hoxhaj from the Roma community, a 12th grade student at the "Ymer Prizreni" school in Prizren, emphasized that such workshops are important to be informed about disinformation.

"This workshop is very sensitizing for informing about media misinformation, where we as a community are neglected by the media, they do not play any role in informing us how we should fact check the media. These workshops have a key role for us, as we receive information properly on how to fact check the media… We should have this kind of activities about media education moreoften, not only for the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities, but also for the majority, the Albanian community, and also for Turkish and Bosniak communities as well" , said Hoxhaj.

Sead Berisha from the Roma community, an 11th grade student at the "11 Marsi" school in Prizren, said that considering that schools are not informed about these topics, they are necessary for young people.

"This kind of workshops on disinformation are important, especially for teenagers, since schools don't teach about these things… We need these activities for young people, since we spend a lot of time on social networks and not on television," Berisha said.

Zemrije Berisha from the Ashkali community, an 11th grade student at the "11 Marsi" school in Prizren, emphasized that communities are often neglected by such workshops, while she said that it is important to increase the number of these workshops. According to her, these workshops help young people to become aware of how to identify fake news.

"These workshops for me as a member of the community are very important, since as a community we are neglected by these workshops and I think that these workshops should be held more often…so that we have more information about fake news", said Berisha.

Naxhije Hyseni, lecturer at the Competence Center "11 Marsi", in Prizren, said that these workshops are always welcome for everyone, while she added that it is necessary to increase the number of this kind of workshops.

"This workshop was welcome, starting from the fact that we are spectators of the everyday life, what surrounds us and what happens in theworld… It important to have this kind of workshops more often, in order to raise awareness… about the fake news that is spreading , maybe every minute of our lives", said Hyseni.

This seven-month project, which aims to raise the awareness of communities against disinformation, as well as strengthen the role of civil society activists from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities, has been organized by the KosovaPress News Agency, along with the non-governmental organization "Young Community Leaders Center" (YCLC).

The Anti-Disinformation Media Education Project for teachers, students and civil society activists of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities is supported by the United States Embassy in Pristina.
