Haradinaj: Dimal Basha is not our preference for Speaker of the Assembly

The Chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, has stated that VV MP Dimal Basha is not their preference for Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo. However, he added that they have not yet decided whether they will vote for him if he is proposed again in today’s constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo.

Speaking upon entering the Assembly building shortly before the continuation of the constitutive session for the 58th time, Haradinaj said that their preference for Speaker is another VV MP, Glauk Konjufca.

According to him, the profile of the Speaker should command authority and respect among all MPs, but as he said, if VV considers Dimal to be their best option and this reflects their level, then they might still vote for him.

The Assembly of Kosovo has still not been constituted six months after the parliamentary elections of February 9.

Five MPs from Vetëvendosje, as the winning party in the elections, have failed to secure the necessary majority to become Speaker of the Assembly.

In the three sessions held so far following the Constitutional Court’s ruling, Vetëvendosje has proposed Albulena Haxhiu, Donika Gërvalla, Hekuran Murati, Arbërie Nagavci, and Dimal Basha.

Only the most recent vote, for Basha, triggered stronger reactions due to the Democratic Party’s prior commitment that it would support MPs who had not been part of Kurti’s government cabinet. Yet in the vote for Basha, this party abstained.

In the explanation after the session, PDK Chairman Memli Krasniqi stated that they had requested a pause to consult on voting for Basha. From Vetëvendosje’s side, this was described as a “revelation” that PDK’s issue was not with names, but that “it does not want the Assembly to be constituted.” /KosovaPress/
