Kosovo’s Acting President says there is enough time to constitute Assembly and elect President

Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, said she has given political parties time for meetings before calling the constitutive session, as required by the 30-day deadline.

She expressed confidence that this time there will be no obstacles to the constitution of the new legislature.

“Considering that once the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo is constituted, and taking into account the numbers in the Assembly, it will be constituted, meaning we will not have the problem we had at the beginning of the year or in April last year. Since after the constitution of the Assembly the deadlines for the election of the President begin to run, namely 60 days after the constitution of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, I have assessed that political parties should be given time to reach an agreement, so that once the Assembly is constituted, there will be no need to wait 60 days to elect the President, or reach a situation that I do not believe anyone wants, where we fail to elect the President and have to go to extraordinary elections once again,” Haxhiu said.

Haxhiu said that possible new elections would not be good for the citizens of Kosovo, nor for political parties or individuals within those parties. Therefore, she said she supports the talks initiated by the party that won the elections.
