Head of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, has warned of protests and an escalation of the situation, as he said, in defense of the Constitution.
After the postponement of the presidential session to 14:00, he said that initiating the procedure for electing the president without the presence of a two-thirds majority of MPs is a constitutional violation, and in his view, it is “similar to the suspension of the Constitution.”
“The Speaker of the Assembly yesterday committed a constitutional violation, this is similar to the suspension of the Constitution, like what happened in the past. This is a dangerous event and a dangerous direction. I call on them to stop and not continue in this direction. Preserving power, staying in power, or coming to power is possible by respecting the Constitution and the country’s democracy, and if we go down this dangerous path, they are making the functioning of the Constitution impossible. They are leaving us no other option except to turn to the citizens to mobilize and defend the Constitution of Kosovo. This is our obligation and duty. I believe the sovereign will do this, as it has done at every stage of this country’s life. Of course, through actions that the sovereign itself identifies, which may include protests and escalations it considers necessary,” he said in the Assembly hall before the media on Tuesday.
