From Prishtina to Durrës, preparations for the 2030 Mediterranean Games intensify with strong international support

A series of high-level meetings and visits recently held have confirmed concrete progress in preparations for the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games, highlighting regional and international cooperation in sports development.

Important coordination meetings for the organization of the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games were held in Durrës, with the participation of delegations from Kosovo, Albania, and international sports organizations.

In this important inspection and coordination visit participated representatives of the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), the National Olympic Committee (OCMG), the Albanian Olympic Committee, the Kosovo Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of Albania, the Ministry of Sport and Youth of Kosovo, the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games Coordination Commission, as well as representatives of the Municipality of Durrës and the Municipality of Prishtina.

The delegations were received by the leadership of the Albanian Olympic Committee, where detailed discussions were held on organizational and infrastructural preparations for this major sporting event.

The visit continued with inspections of sports facilities and coastal areas where sailing activities will take place, confirming the potential and strategic importance of Durrës in this major regional sporting event.

One of the main discussion points was the role of Durrës as a supporting city for the Mediterranean Games, where according to authorities Durrës will host water sports competitions, becoming an important center of the event, while field inspections and coordination meetings on infrastructure and organization were also carried out.

“During the official meeting, the Mayor of Durrës, Ms. Emiriana Sako, reaffirmed the maximum commitment of the city of Durrës to be an active part in the organization and development of sailing competitions during the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games” – the Albanian Olympic Committee stated.

The importance of these meetings was also highlighted by the Kosovo Olympic Committee (KOC).

“KOC leaders, President Ismet Krasniqi and Vice President Milaim Kelmendi, together with advisor to the minister Blerim Gashani, Drilon Brahimi, and ICMG leaders Julian Pace Bonello, also chair of the coordination commission for LM Prishtina 2030, and Secretary General Iakovos Filipoussis, were received by KOC leadership, President Fidel Ylli and Secretary General Gerti Shima. The KOC, Ministry of Sport and Youth, Municipality of Prishtina and ICMG delegation are in Durrës for coordination for the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games” – the KOC announced.

Meanwhile, in a post on his official Facebook page after the meeting with President Julian Pace Bonello, Albania’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Blendi Gonxhja, said he appreciated the progress made and Albanian hospitality, expressing confidence in strategic cooperation for the success of the Mediterranean Games 2030.

“President Julian Pace Bonello was impressed by the hospitality and progress of Albanian sport, highly valuing the support and strategic cooperation for the success of the Mediterranean Games 2030” – Gonxhja added.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Sport and Youth, Blerim Gashani, received in a meeting the President of the Mediterranean Games Prishtina 2030 and also President of the Malta Olympic Committee, Julian Pace Bonello, as well as the Secretary General of ICMG, Iakovos Filippoussis, as part of coordination and intensive preparations for organizing the Prishtina 2030 Mediterranean Games, where he discussed the progress achieved so far, infrastructure projects and the strategic importance of this event for the international promotion of Kosovo as well as full institutional commitment for the successful realization of this project.

“During the meeting we discussed the progress achieved so far, infrastructure projects and the importance these Games have for Kosovo, not only in the sporting aspect but also as a historic moment for the international promotion of our country. I emphasized the full institutional commitment for the successful realization of this major project, ensuring that the legacy of the Mediterranean Games 2030 has a long-term impact on the development of sport, youth and sports infrastructure in all regions of Kosovo” – Gashani announced.

On the other hand, the Mayor of Prishtina, Përparim Rama, emphasized that this cooperation represents a new regional model, where cities and institutions come together to implement large international projects.

“Durrës will be part of the organization of sailing competitions, showing that when cities and institutions unite, events are created that transcend borders and strengthen the whole region” – Rama stated.

Prishtina and Durrës are positioning themselves as co-organizers of an event expected to have a major sporting and regional impact.
