After Gllogjan murder hearing, prosecutor provides no details

Prosecutor Sahide Gashi did not provide details about the Gllogjan murder case in a brief statement to the media after the hearing.

Speaking briefly to reporters, she said that everything she has to say will be presented in court.

“Everything I have to say, I will say in court,” Gashi said.

Asked why she mentioned the new prosecutor assigned to the case only in her closing statement, Gashi disagreed with the claim.

“I do not agree with that,” she said.

The Basic Court in Peja decided on Friday to reopen the trial in the Gllogjan triple murder case, where Halil, Kreshnik and Kastriot Mehmetaj are accused.

The decision was made after the Prosecution, only in its closing statement, referred to a video recording showing Kreshnik Mehmetaj firing a weapon and to ballistic evidence that had not previously been presented or admitted during the trial, preventing the defence from challenging it.

Halil, Kastriot and Kreshnik Mehmetaj are accused of opening fire with an AK-47 rifle at a bus in Gllogjan on November 26, 2021, allegedly motivated by revenge. Two 17-year-old students and the bus driver were killed in the attack.

On June 21, 2023, during the initial hearing, all three defendants pleaded not guilty.
