The MP of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Saranda Bogujevci, has explained the reason why, according to her, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo proposed her name as an acceptable candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.
She said this did not happen because she was a victim of the last war, but rather because she had served as Deputy Speaker in the previous legislature of the Assembly.
Regarding this, Bogujevci stated, “Just because someone was a victim of war doesn’t mean they are being controlled.”
Nevertheless, Bogujevci emphasized that the Vetëvendosje Movement is not backing down from nominating Albulena Haxhiu for the position of Speaker, despite the fact that 24 attempts have failed to constitute the Assembly.
“It was thought that since I was sitting up there as Deputy Speaker, someone was reminded of me as a possible proposal. That’s how the proposal by that person came about. I wasn’t just a victim of the war where my family was killed and I survived. I’ve been fighting against Serbia since I was a child. My whole childhood, and long before entering politics, I’ve been in a struggle with Serbia with my family… We need to understand that just because we are war victims doesn’t mean we are controlled, that we don’t have our own minds or that we don’t know anything—those are narratives being pushed. We also have our own opinions. We may have different opinions, but we do know things. We have knowledge and education, and our words carry weight,” she said.
Bogujevci made these comments upon entering the Assembly building, for the 25th continuation of the constitutive session. /KosovaPress
