On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Kosovo’s liberation, commemorative ceremonies were held at the monument of national hero Zahir Pajaziti, where institutional representatives highlighted the role of key figures in the history of the war and resistance for freedom.
Acting President Albulena Haxhiu stated that Kosovo’s freedom is the result of a long and multi-layered path of resistance.
According to her, their legacy should serve as a foundation for strengthening institutions and developing the country, viewing freedom as the result of collective sacrifice and long-standing resilience.
“These names are proof that freedom did not come from a single path. These names are proof that freedom came from the resistance and sacrifice of Commander Adem Jashari and his family. From the political wisdom and persistence of President Ibrahim Rugova, from the resistance of national cause activist Adem Demaci, whose 28 years in prison did not weaken his belief in freedom. From the courage and bravery of Commander Zahir Pajaziti, but also from the blood of all national martyrs. The legacy left by our martyrs and heroes must serve as our guiding principle, as institutions, so that we make our state more just, stronger, and more worthy,” she said.
On this anniversary, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti also stated that pre-war guerrilla actions and historic events such as the Epopeja of the Kosovo Liberation Army made the path to liberation irreversible.
He said that every June 12, Kosovo remembers the generations who suffered and sacrificed during the long period of occupation.
“Pre-war guerrilla actions such as those of Commander Zahir Pajaziti and historic events like the KLA Epopeja have made the path of liberation irreversible. Every June 12 we remember all the generations that struggled, suffered, and sacrificed during Kosovo’s occupation by Serbia for nearly 87 years. This was concluded with the glorious liberation war and NATO’s intervention in Kosovo. Commander Zahir Pajaziti, together with Hakif Zejnullahu and Edmond Hoxha and other comrades, knew that the freedom of the people, the liberation of the country, unity, statehood, democracy, and the republic could not be achieved without recognizing that the internal factor is decisive and initiating. Therefore, they organized early so that Kosovo would be liberated and so that our enemy, aggressive and hegemonic Serbia, would be expelled. Today Kosovo has a strong army, a capable police force, and soon will also have a gendarmerie to ensure peace and guarantee institutional stability,” he added.
In honor of the 27th anniversary of Kosovo’s liberation, Haxhiu and Kurti also paid tribute in Prekaz, at the graves of former President Ibrahim Rugova and activist Adem Demaci.
