Three years ago, on September 30, 2022, the KosovaPress news agency was officially admitted as a full member of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), where the EANA General Assembly is currently holding its sessions. This is a significant day for the media and the Republic of Kosovo.

The decision to admit KosovaPress was made by secret ballot, requiring ¾ of all members’ votes. Applicants for membership in this organization included KosovaPress (Kosovo), MIA (North Macedonia), and Armenpress (Armenia). This meeting is being held in Zurich, Switzerland.

Out of 32 member countries (following the suspension of the Russian news agency TASS after the start of the war in Ukraine), 27 news agencies participated. KosovaPress received 25 votes (24 were required), thus becoming the 33rd member of the Alliance (https://www.newsalliance.org).

The agencies from North Macedonia (MIA) and Armenia (Armenpress) did not secure enough votes.

With this membership, many more avenues were opened for KosovaPress to cooperate with all European news agencies, and thanks to these agreements, media and readers now have broader access to news from these countries in all fields.

What is EANA?

The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) was founded on August 21, 1956, at a conference on new media technology held in Strasbourg. In 1970, agencies from behind the so-called “Iron Curtain” were invited to join. EANA’s predecessor, Agences Alliées, was founded in 1924 and remained active until World War II, when its activities were interrupted.

EANA serves as a forum for cooperation and exchange of information and experiences among European news agencies. At the center of its activity lies the collection and distribution of news while maintaining a healthy environment by respecting universal journalistic principles such as press freedom and fair competition. Members of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) are committed to promoting and preserving this environment.

KosovaPress is the 33rd member of EANA and will continue to contribute tirelessly to the mission of the Alliance.

Part of ABNA-SEE since 2017

KosovaPress has already made history in the Association of Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SEE) since its membership in 2017. In addition to contributing to the further qualitative growth of ABNA-SEE, it also organized the 29th Assembly of this Association, taking over the one-year Presidency, which it recently handed over to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

In September 2021, KosovaPress brought Balkan and Southeast European news agencies to Prishtina, making Kosovo the center of news agencies where their role in the post-COVID period was discussed for almost a week.

During KosovaPress’s Presidency, the Association of Balkan News Agencies – Southeast Europe (ABNA-SEE) obtained legal status by registering its headquarters in Sofia, Bulgaria. Officially, KosovaPress is one of the founding agencies of ABNA-SEE, making a major contribution also to the adoption of its statute. Currently, KosovaPress holds a seat on the ABNA-SEE board together with Greece and Turkey.

KosovaPress, continuous growth year after year

Since its establishment as an independent media outlet, the KosovaPress news agency has experienced continuous growth year after year, while in recent years it has focused on raising the flag and representing the state of Kosovo in the most important forums and organizations of news agencies.

KosovaPress currently operates in three languages (Albanian, English, and Serbian), offering subscriptions and services in text, audio, video, and photo. By following daily events and addressing current topics through themes and interviews, KosovaPress has often been cited by leading global media outlets.

In its two most recent evaluations, KosovaPress was ranked as the agency with zero errors and the most reliable one. It remains loyal to true and accurate reporting, offering guarantees for all media in Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, and the wider region that what it provides is only quality.

Continuous technical investments enable KosovaPress to deliver high visual quality through cameras as well as the capability of live-streaming 10 events simultaneously from anywhere they take place.

Currently, KosovaPress operates with its News Department, Foreign Languages Department, Sales Department, Finance Department, Projects Department, and Technical Department.
