The Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, paid homage at the “Heroinat" memorial, honoring the victims of sexual violence during the war on their memorial day.

Haxhiu said they gathered this Tuesday to commemorate the dignity and sacrifice of victims of sexual violence during the last war.

“These are deeply painful stories, but also stories of resilience and extraordinary strength. The girls and women, as well as the boys and men who survived this violence, show us that we still have much work to do in addressing our responsibilities as institutions of the Republic of Kosovo,” Haxhiu said.

Among other things, she announced that recently 12 indictments have been filed for sexual violence during the last war in Kosovo.

“Recently, 12 indictments have been filed for sexual violence during the last war in Kosovo. We also have three court decisions—convictions for cases of sexual violence during the last war in Kosovo. Two of them are at the Basic Court, while one has become final,” Haxhiu added.

The Acting President emphasized that they will continue addressing responsibilities for all war crimes, while thanking civil society organizations for maintaining the morale of all victims.

In the end, she called on Serbia to bring all individuals who committed war crimes before justice authorities.
