According to MESTI, the decision was taken due to recent weather conditions and the difficult situation in many municipalities across the country caused by flooding and disrupted traffic. The Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute has warned that rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days, increasing the risk of localized flooding and problems affecting traffic and infrastructure, reports KosovaPress.
As a result, the winter break has been extended by two additional days, on January 8 and 9, while the teaching process will resume nationwide on Monday, January 12, 2026.
MESTI stated that it remains in continuous communication with Municipal Education Directorates and that, based on information from the field, it was not possible to begin classes today. The lessons missed during these two days will be made up during the second part of the school year.The Ministry thanked parents, students, and teachers for their understanding, emphasizing that the safety of students and educational staff remains the top priority.
