Slavko Simiq, a Member of Parliament from the Serb List in Kosovo, is accused of inciting protesters to attack Albanian journalists during tensions in Leposaviq on June 16, 2023. He has not stated whether he would resign from his parliamentary position if found guilty.

When asked by KosovaPress about this issue, Simiq said he would make further statements in due course. He did not clarify whether he would step down if convicted.

In a brief comment to the media, Simiq said:
"Thank you very much, that’s my statement. I have made a statement, and there will be an opportunity to give more statements later."

The initial hearing against Simiq and Urosh Vukasinović, who is also accused, was scheduled today at the Basic Court in Mitrovica. The charges relate to inciting protesters to attack journalists during the Leposaviq protests. However, the hearing was postponed due to missing case documents for Simiq and his lawyer.

Simiq has claimed he had no involvement in the incident and considers himself “absolutely innocent.”

According to the indictment by the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica, on June 16, 2023, during protests against the visit of the Minister of Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, Simiq allegedly ordered the crowd to attack media representatives, who were subsequently assaulted with smoke bombs, punches, kicks, and heavy objects.

He is charged with “participation in a crowd committing a criminal offense” and hooliganism.

Vukasinović faces similar charges, with additional accusations for assault.
