Rexhep Selimi’s defense again demanded that Selimi be declared not guilty of all charges and allowed to return to Kosovo to be with his family.

His lawyer, Geoffrey Roberts, said that no other decision could be justified based on the evidence presented by the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

“Selimi must be acquitted of all charges, released immediately, and returned to Kosovo to be with his family. No other decision can be justified based on the evidence presented in this trial,” he said.

According to Selimi’s lawyer, the Prosecutor’s Office has no valid arguments against their client.

“The prosecution has no arguments against Selimi. The alleged contribution he made to the ‘joint criminal enterprise’ cannot be proven to link him to the crimes presented in the indictment. No guilty verdict can be issued against Selimi regarding the ‘joint criminal enterprise.’ That’s it. The prosecution has no evidence, and they cannot produce anything now to secure a conviction against Selimi. Every claim the SPO made against Selimi has been baseless. Over five years of trial and pretrial proceedings, we have heard hundreds of witnesses and reviewed thousands of pieces of material evidence, and the prosecution has had the full burden of proof in this trial. Logically, they should have succeeded by Monday. Nevertheless, they barely managed,” he added.
