Technical problems with the electricity supply left 50 miners trapped for several hours in the Trepca mine in Stan Tërg, while some of them have already managed to exit the underground tunnels.

The news was confirmed to KosovaPress by the president of the Trepca Miners’ Union, Ibrahim Januzi.

“According to the information we have, some of the miners have managed to get out,” Januzi said.

The director of the Stan Tërg mine, Shyqyri Sadiku, also confirmed the incident, stating that the miners had been trapped since 1:30 a.m. due to a power failure.

“Most of them have come out. Currently, 18 miners are still inside, but we are working to find an alternative solution. There were 50 miners underground,” Sadiku said.

He added that the health condition of the trapped miners is stable.

KosovaPress also contacted the management of Trepca for more details, but had not received a response by the time of publication.

This is not the first time miners in Stan Tërg have faced similar situations.

On January 26, 2026, miners from the second shift at the Trepca mine were trapped underground for six to seven hours after the elevator stopped working due to an electrical failure.

Meanwhile, on January 11, 2026, five on-duty pump operators were trapped for around nine hours in the Stan Tërg mine, also due to technical problems with the electricity supply.
