The Ombudsperson organized a meeting on Tuesday with international partners on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of this institution.

The Ombudsperson, Naim Qelaj, before foreign diplomats expressed the need for the partnership with allies to be strengthened and to continue further in the direction of respecting human rights.

He also mentioned the challenges faced recently, among others the lack of the constitution of the Assembly of Kosovo.

Meanwhile, he underlined that during the period he has been exercising his duty as Ombudsperson, there has been a tendency to target independent institutions, though he did not specify by whom.

Also part of this roundtable was the Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Aivo Orav, who said that the Ombudsperson institution marks major achievements in the field of human rights and equality in Kosovo.

He emphasized that preserving the independence of the Ombudsperson institution means increasing public trust.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of other embassies accredited in Kosovo, as well as the head of EULEX, Pietro Barbano. /KosovaPress/
