Prime Minister and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), Albin Kurti, will intensify efforts in the coming days to secure the election of the president, said LVV Parliamentary Group leader Arbërie Nagavci.

After the meeting of the Presidency of the Assembly, she said they will do everything to avoid new elections.

“Kurti is continuing his maximum engagement as the leader of LVV and our representative. I believe that in the coming days he will intensify efforts to find a solution so that the president is elected within the deadline set by the Constitutional Court. New elections will not bring any other result,” she said.

On the other hand, Vlora Çitaku from the PDK called for greater seriousness from Kurti regarding the election of the president.

She said that so far Kurti has not sent an official invitation to the PDK for discussions on electing the president.

“We are interested in playing our positive and constructive role to give the country institutions as soon as possible. But the main responsibility lies with the parliamentary majority. PDK has 22 MPs. The Assembly has 98 other MPs who are enough to elect all institutions. LVV and its leader, Albin Kurti, must treat the issue of electing the president with the seriousness and responsibility that such a situation requires. Now it is time for LVV to turn its public statements into a written letter that PDK will consider. So far, we have not received any official request from LVV,” Citaku said.

The issue of electing the president was also addressed on Wednesday by the LVV parliamentary group leader, Jehona Lushaku.

Whether a solution will be reached depends, she said, on LVV as the parliamentary majority in the country.

She denied claims that in the recent meeting between Kurti and LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku, the latter requested the presidency.

“These are disinformation. You have received the official statement of Abdixhiku, who was present and conducted these negotiations. We are convinced and ready to contribute to these meetings. Anything discussed outside of our official statements is disinformation,” she said.

Acting President Albulena Haxhiu also called on political parties to put aside differences and work together to find a solution to the issue of the presidency.
