Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, announced that she has signed the decrees dismissing seven prosecutors from the Serb community, following yesterday’s decision by the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council to reject their requests to withdraw their resignations.

Haxhiu stressed that the action was taken in implementation of the decision of the competent institution and in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Kosovo.

“Following the decision of the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council to dismiss seven prosecutors from the Serb community, who had resigned in 2022, I have signed the decrees dismissing them from their positions. This act concludes a process that has been prolonged for years and implements the decision of the competent institution, in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Kosovo. Our state functions on the principles of constitutional order and the rule of law. No one can hold the functioning of institutions hostage or create legal uncertainty through unfinished processes. The Republic of Kosovo will continue to act decisively, in accordance with the law and in defense of the integrity of its institutions,” she wrote on Facebook.

On July 20, the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPC) rejected the requests of seven prosecutors and 15 members of the Serb community support staff to withdraw their resignations and return to Kosovo’s prosecutorial system. The KPC sent the names of the prosecutors to the Office of the President for their dismissal. At the same meeting, the Council also revoked its decision to suspend the salaries of the Serb prosecutors and support staff.

The former Serb prosecutors had requested that they be allowed to return to their positions after resigning in November 2022, when Serb representatives withdrew from Kosovo’s institutions in the north of the country. /KosovaPress/
