Speaker of the Assembly Albulena Haxhiu has condemned the sexist language used by Vetëvendosje MP Fatos Geci against PDK MP Vlora Citaku during the previous session.

She said she was not informed about what Geci had said on Tuesday to the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and only learned about it the following day through media reports.

Meanwhile, regarding his statement linking the conviction of former President Hashim Thaci in The Hague with the life sentence of Naim Murseli, Haxhiu said this language is divisive and an “attack on the great legacy of the KLA.”

“I witnessed the previous session, where I not only warned MP Geci, but also did not allow him to reply to the speech of the PDK representative upon his request. I condemned that language; for me it is unacceptable, divisive, and an attack on the great work of the Kosovo Liberation Army. In this regard, I will also take a position in today’s parliamentary session, and I also condemn the sexist language directed at the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mrs. Vlora Citaku. I was not informed about this during that session, I did not hear it, and I was informed yesterday by the media, respectively through the published reports. I will not allow the Assembly, as Speaker, to become an arena of confrontations where women MPs are targeted. They are representatives of the citizens of Kosovo, and if such sexist language is used, it will not be allowed and will be condemned by me as Speaker of the Assembly,” she said.

She also called on other parliamentary groups to condemn such language.

“I call on all parliamentary groups to condemn such language, from whoever it comes and wherever it is used. Of course, this is a problem when it happens in the Assembly of Kosovo, but also in any other moment or institution, whether in the street or on television debates, as it often happens, because you know very well that very harsh language has been used against activists and MPs of Vetëvendosje, but there has been no solidarity or reaction to condemn such language. I condemn this sexist, misogynistic, unacceptable language, and I will not allow the Assembly to become an arena where women are attacked and where such language is used,” she added
