The American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo organized a meeting today with its members, attended by the Director General of the Kosovo Customs, Agron Llugaliu. The focus of the meeting was the Customs’ work plan for 2026, as well as strengthening cooperation between Kosovo Customs and the private sector.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Director of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, Arian Zeka, highly praised the inter-institutional partnership, commending the ongoing reforms undertaken by Kosovo Customs over the years. He emphasized that the institution has become one of the most advanced in the region, compared to its counterparts in the Balkans.
According to a statement from the chamber, speaking about infrastructure developments, Llugaliu mentioned the inauguration of a new scanner at the Merdare border crossing, donated by the United States, as well as the planned operationalization of other scanners during 2026. He also emphasized the expansion of the Vërmica border crossing as one of the most important projects, due to the large volume of trade processed at this point.
Regarding the implementation of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo’s decision to remove customs duties on goods of U.S. origin, the Customs Director stated that best international practices are being analyzed to determine the origin of goods, with support from the U.S. Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP).
