On the 27th anniversary of the Battle of Koshare, tributes were also paid at the memorial complex by the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, and the leader of DUI, Ali Ahmeti.
Former KLA commander of the Dukagjini Zone, Haradinaj, said that in Koshare the bravery of those who fell for freedom and the breaking of the Albanian-Albanian border are honored.
Here lie brave fighters from all regions of our homeland, our nation, but also people from other nations who joined our just war. We never forget to express respect for all who contributed to freedom — the families of the martyrs, the wounded, the surviving fighters — and we also express gratitude to NATO and America, which stood in defense of the people of Kosovo at that time, and today we enjoy freedom,” he said.
The DUI leader and former KLA commander, Ahmeti, said that April 9 is a significant day in national history.“Today is a marked day in the history of our nation. Besides being washed in blood, it is a significant day because the Albanian-Albanian border was broken. It is also significant because all those fighters, both fallen and alive, were a force that gave strength and morale to all brigades operating in the Dukagjini Plain.
They were professionals, trained officers, great patriots who, with dedication, not only held the front line but also had the moral and national responsibility to supply the brigades and all military formations operating in Dukagjini, in Drenica, and across Kosovo up to Shala and Ferizaj. They proved they truly loved their homeland and wanted our glorious army to be victorious, as it ultimately was together with its allies, NATO. They served with all their capacities, providing information to NATO so that the occupying Serbian forces would be expelled from our lands as soon as possible,” he said.
