Former U.S. diplomat Christopher Hill says that the fact he had not encountered Hashim Thaçi’s name until later suggests that Thaçi may not have been one of the founders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), although he admits he does not know this for certain.
Hill is the fifth witness called by the defense of former President Hashim Thaçi, who has been testifying at the Specialized Chambers in The Hague since yesterday.
During questioning by prosecutor James Pace about whether Hill knew that Hashim Thaçi was part of the KLA’s political directorate, the former U.S. diplomat stated that before the Rambouillet conference, Thaçi was described as a member of the directorate, “but I cannot provide further details.”
“At a certain point he was described as a member of the political directorate. I cannot tell you exactly when this was stated, but it was sometime before Rambouillet. I cannot give further details,” Hill declared in The Hague.“The person who wanted to enter with a weapon was not a senior figure in the hierarchy, but it could be seen that he was not simply a guard. No one else had a weapon inside the house… I do not recall saying that this person was known for such acts; I am not very clear about this citation,” he said.
The former U.S. special envoy during the Kosovo war, Christopher Hill, began his testimony in The Hague yesterday. He is the fifth witness called by Hashim Thaçi’s defense, which is represented by lawyer Luka Mishetiq.
