The State Prosecutor has announced that, up to this moment, no person has been arrested for criminal offenses against voting rights, in the context of today’s elections.
According to the official statement, around 100 prosecutors and members of the prosecutorial system have been and continue to be engaged throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, with the aim of ensuring the smooth conduct of the electoral process and the protection of citizens’ free vote.
During the day, the State Prosecutor received several reports regarding possible irregularities. After verification and handling of these reports, by the close of the voting process, it was found that only five cases contained elements of criminal offenses against voting rights.The first case was initiated in the village of Ranillug – Gjilan, for the criminal offense “Impairment of free determination of voters,” according to Article 210 of the Criminal Code of Kosovo. The suspect, by the prosecutor’s decision, was released in regular procedure.
The fourth case was initiated in Drenas, for the criminal offense “Violation of the secrecy of the vote,” while the fifth case was in Suharekë, for the same criminal offense. In both cases, the suspects were released in regular procedure.
State prosecutors will continue to be on duty during the vote counting process at polling stations, as well as during their transport to municipal counting centers.
The Office of the Chief State Prosecutor has thanked the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, the media, and civil society for their cooperation with the State Prosecutor, appreciating their contribution in preventing and successfully pursuing criminal offenses related to the electoral process.
