In the Infectious Diseases Clinic at UCCK, there are no serious cases of the infectious disease Pertussis. Last week, NIPHK (National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo) registered eight confirmed cases of Pertussis, mainly among young people. Whereas, only two or three cases have been registered in Infectious Diseases.

Pertussis, otherwise known as Whooping Cough, is a contagious bacterial disease that involves the respiratory tract.

The best way to overcome this disease is vaccination, therefore NIPHK calls on parents to adhere to the regular vaccination calendar and vaccinate their children, according to the schedules set in the calendar.

The Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic at UCCK, Arben Vishaj, told KosovaPress that this disease does not pose any great danger to the lives of patients because thanks to vaccination, no serious case has yet been registered at UCCK.

Vishaj added that there is a way of spreading this disease, as there are parents who have hesitated to vaccinate their children.

Symptoms of this syndrome usually appear 7 to 10 days after infection, but can appear up to 21 days later.
