Over 600 participants in the University League competitions
Sports such as Beach Volleyball, Chess, Tutsall, Table Tennis, 3x3 Basketball, and Tennis will now also develop their activities in the form of leagues within the framework of university competitions, marking the third edition of this format’s development. This has been made possible through the cooperation between the Olympic Committee of Kosovo and the Kosovo University Sports Federation, KosovaPress reports. The President of the Kosovo University Sports Federation, Musa Selimi, emphasized that the main goal of these competitions is the massification of sports starting at the university level, making it possible for future talents to emerge through this activity, who may shine in the near future for Kosovo. “Today, we have around 600 participants in their registration, who will compete with their spirit and additional motivation during the next three months. They have understood that the role of sports and movement is a means for life, helping us in both professional and academic development and advancement. Therefore, I would like to emphasize that these competitions will bring the best winners, the champions of the University Leagues, who will be rewarded with amounts determined by the Kosovo University Sports Federation,” said Selimi. The importance of this activity was also emphasized by the President of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, Ismet Krasniqi. He said that students from sports universities are the ones who inspire future generations to engage in sports, and this creates a healthy habit of participation in such activities. He assured that the Olympic Committee of Kosovo will guarantee support for students and all those who find space for such organizations. “Today, we can see that many students and athletes are present, the third edition is getting bigger every year, and this makes me proud as the President of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo to have such a president who organizes different activities of this kind. This particularly impacts the level improvement of sports in Kosovo and the promotion of Olympic values across Kosovo,” said Krasniqi. Meanwhile, the representative of the Ministry of Sport, Fidan Shatri, said that all students need more physical activities because physical activity, according to him, is a precursor to freedom. “We need to do even more work, knowing what level university sports have been at, where they have reached, and where they are headed. As a ministry, we have the obligation to be a key partner to the University Sports Federation because, in the university world, students from the University of Prishtina and all over Kosovo need physical activity. Physical activity makes you feel better, and it is a precursor to the freedom that we enjoy today,” emphasized Shatri. In these competitions, around 600 participants will take part in the male and female categories for about three months, while the champions of these leagues will also participate in a joint competition with clubs from Albania. Furthermore, as part of the launch of University Leagues in various sports, the Kosovo Olympic Committee will promote April 6th – the International Day of Sport for Peace and Development.
