The constitutive session of the new legislature of the Assembly, which has been scheduled by President Vjosa Osmani to take place on April 15, will be presided over by two deputies—the oldest and the youngest in the hall, KosovaPress reports.
During this session, the new Speaker of Parliament is expected to be elected, with the largest parliamentary group having the advantage of proposing a candidate, who is then elected by a majority of the deputies’ votes.
From the new legislature, the oldest deputy is Avni Dehari from the Vetevendosje Movement, aged 78, while the youngest deputy is Sala Jashari, 25 years old, from the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
Dehari secured enough votes to become a deputy for the second time in the February 9 elections as a candidate from the Vetevendosje Movement. Meanwhile, Jashari ran and was elected as a deputy in the Kosovo Assembly for the first time.
In the February 9 elections, deputy Avni Dehari received over 90,000 votes, while deputy Sala Jashari was supported by more than 35,000 citizens.
Eugen Cakolli from KDI confirmed this, stating, “Based on the information we have, Avni Dehari and Sala Jashari are the deputies who will lead the constitutive session.”
Following the certification of the final election results for the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, held on February 9, 2025, and in accordance with constitutional authorizations and legal deadlines, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani has convened the first meeting of the Ninth Legislature of the Kosovo Assembly for April 15, 2025, the Office of the President announced, as reported by KosovaPress.
After the Assembly is constituted, the process of forming the Government begins. According to the Constitution, the President is required to propose a candidate for Prime Minister to the Assembly after consulting with the party or coalition that has won the majority.
The parliamentary elections were held on February 9, and the results from the Central Election Commission (CEC) were certified last week. Based on these results, Vetevendosje (LVV) emerged as the leading party with 48 deputies, followed by PDK with 24 deputies, LDK in third place with 20 deputies, and AAK-NISMA in fourth place with 8 deputies.
