Members of the Kosovo Assembly will convene again today in yet another attempt to constitute the Assembly.
The process of constitution has stalled at the election of the deputy speaker from the Serb minority community.
In the August 26 session, the Serbian List MP, Slavko Simiq, failed three times to secure enough votes to be elected deputy speaker of the Assembly.
Subsequently, the Speaker of the Assembly, Dimal Basha, decided that the procedure for electing the deputy speaker should proceed by lot. However, when the name of another Serb community MP, Nenad Rashiq, was put to a vote, he too failed to gain the necessary support to take the post.
For Rashiq, who stood as the sole candidate, today is expected to be the third and final attempt to win the confidence of the MPs.
On August 26, Dimal Basha secured the confidence of 73 MPs, with 30 voting against and eight abstaining.
On the same day, deputy speakers from the three largest Albanian parties were elected: Albulena Haxhiu, Vlora Çitaku, and Kujtim Shala.
From other minority communities, Emilija Rexhepi was elected deputy speaker on a rotational basis.
After the failure of the last two sessions to elect the deputy speaker from the Serb community, today’s process is also expected to continue through the drawing of lots, as foreseen in the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure.
