Despite not working a single day in September, MPs still received salaries of around €2,000

Members of the Assembly of Kosovo today received their basic salary of 1,913 euros for the month of September, even though they did not work a single day during this month. The Constitutional Court imposed an interim measure from September 5 to September 30, which consequently prohibited any action by the elected MPs of the Assembly of Kosovo.

KosovaPress has learned from a member of the Assembly that this afternoon, the base salaries of 1,913 euros for the month of September were allocated to their bank accounts.

Throughout the entire month of September, the Assembly was under the interim measure due to the decision of the Constitutional Court, and as a result, MPs carried out no work.

KosovaPress has also sought a response from the Assembly of Kosovo regarding the execution of salaries for MPs for the month of September and the interim measure concerning the constitution of the Assembly during this month, but up to the moment of publication, no response has been given.

During this period of the interim measure, MPs were prohibited from taking any action or decision.

Kosovo has not yet established new institutions even eight months after the parliamentary elections of February 9.

The constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo was closed on August 30 by Speaker Dimal Basha, even though MPs failed to elect the deputy speaker from the Serb community, alongside the election of the speaker and four other deputy speakers of the legislature.

In his reasoning, Basha stated that he took this step to prevent the state from being blocked and to allow the Assembly to continue its work, thereby enabling the formation of the government after the February 9 parliamentary elections.

Meanwhile, today the Constitutional Court of Kosovo announced that the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo has not been concluded.

The Constitutional Court has ruled that the Constitutive Session of the Assembly, which began on April 15, 2025, has not been concluded as a result of the failure to elect the deputy speaker of the Assembly from the ranks of the Serb community MPs, and therefore the Assembly has not been constituted in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 1 of Article 66 [Election and Mandate] and paragraphs 1 and 4 of Article 67 [Election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers] of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo.
