Trade balance changes in January, ASK provides details

Kosovo Agency of Statistics (ASK) reports that foreign trade in goods in January 2026 recorded a decrease in the trade deficit compared to the same period last year.

According to ASK, the trade deficit in January 2026 reached €365.9 million, marking a decrease of 11.6% compared to January 2025, when the deficit was €414.1 million. The coverage ratio of imports by exports was 14.1%, KosovaPress reports.

ASK states that exports of goods in January 2026 reached €60.2 million, an increase of 0.8% compared to the same period in 2025, while imports amounted to €426.1 million, a decrease of 10.1%.

Based on ASK’s data, the largest shares in exports were basic metals and articles thereof at 21.9%, followed by mineral products at 11.9%, prepared foods, beverages, and tobacco at 11.8%, plastics, rubber, and articles thereof at 11.4%, various manufactured articles at 9.0%, and textiles at 7.6%.

In imports, the largest shares were mineral products at 17.6%, transport equipment at 12.8%, prepared foods, beverages, and tobacco at 11.4%, machinery and mechanical and electrical equipment at 10.4%, and basic metals at 8.1%.

Regarding trade partners, ASK reports that Kosovo’s exports to European Union countries reached €19.0 million, or 31.6% of total exports, a decrease of 15.6%. Key EU partners were Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. Imports from the EU reached €162.5 million, or 38.1% of total imports, a decrease of 20.5%, with Germany, Italy, and Poland having the largest shares.

Exports to CEFTA countries reached €27.0 million, or 44.8% of the total, an increase of 11.8%. Main partners were Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Montenegro. Imports from CEFTA reached €63.6 million, or 14.9% of total imports, a decrease of 23.9%.

Meanwhile, exports to other countries reached €14.2 million, or 23.6% of the total, with Switzerland and Turkey as main partners. Imports from these countries reached €200.0 million, or 46.9% of total imports, with China and Turkey having the largest shares.
