Kosovo Agency of Statistics (KAS) reports that the annual inflation rate in April 2026 reached 7.5%, compared to the same period last year, while monthly inflation stood at 1.1%, KosovaPress reports.
According to the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), the highest annual price increase was recorded in the transport group with 16.1%, followed by housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels with 15.2%.
Price increases were also recorded in restaurants and accommodation services with 5.8%, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 5.6%, and alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and narcotics with 5.1%.
KAS also reports price increases in health services with 4.7%, personal care and miscellaneous goods and services with 3.6%, furniture and household equipment with 3.1%, recreation, sport and culture with 3.0%, and clothing and footwear with 2.3%.
“This is mainly explained by price increases in the main COICOP groups: transport (16.1%); housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (15.2%); restaurants and accommodation services (5.8%); food and non-alcoholic beverages (5.6%); alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (5.1%); health (4.7%); personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services (3.6%); furniture, household equipment and routine maintenance (3.1%); recreation, sport and culture (3.0%); and clothing and footwear (2.3%),” KAS stated.
On the other hand, price decreases were recorded in information and communication by 0.2% and in education by 0.6%.
Regarding monthly changes compared to March 2026, KAS states that the 1.1% inflation was mainly driven by increases in transport (4.9%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.2%), recreation and culture (0.4%), and furniture and household equipment (0.3%).
A slight increase was also recorded in food and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as clothing and footwear, both by 0.1%.
Meanwhile, a monthly decrease was recorded in personal care and miscellaneous services by 0.2%.
According to KAS, the annual inflation in March 2026 stood at an average of 6.7%.
