Thirteenth salary for public sector workers, Kurti provides details

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti stated that once the Assembly is constituted and the new government is formed, they will approve the 2026 Budget Law and decide on the thirteenth salary for public sector workers.

Kurti explained that the thirteenth salary will not be paid in December 2026, but at the beginning of the following year. He also mentioned the legal procedures for budget approval, noting that it must be passed in two readings in the Assembly.

“For all public administration employees, the 2026 Budget Law, which we passed once in a government session but will now pass in two readings with the tenth legislature, includes the thirteenth salary. Anyone who works 12 months in the state administration receives 13 salaries. However, the thirteenth salary will not be paid at the end of the year, in December 2026, but at the beginning of the next year. Depending on when the Assembly is constituted and we form the government, in the first session, in addition to the decision on the Budget Law, we will also decide to pay the thirteenth salary at the beginning of the year,” he said.

The thirteenth salary had been included in the 2026 draft budget, but due to the failure to form the new government, it was not submitted to the Assembly.

This commitment was also part of the December 28 election campaign.

Kurti made these comments on Wednesday after visiting the Kosovo Telecom.
