The German Embassy in Kosovo has called it unacceptable that those responsible for the terrorist attack in Banjska, Zvečan, have still not been brought to justice.
The Embassy noted that the person who claimed responsibility for the attack – Milan Radoičić – continues to live freely in Serbia.
“It is essential that accountability and justice be applied without any further delay,” the Embassy said on Wednesday, on the second anniversary of the terrorist attack.
“Two years have passed since the horrific attack in Banjska, and yet the self-declared leader of the attack, Radoičić, continues to live freely in Serbia. Two years have passed since the killing of Kosovo Police officer Afrim Bunjaku, and despite promises that the perpetrators would face justice, justice has still not been served. This clear impunity is unacceptable,” the Embassy said.
On September 24, 2023, a group of armed Serbs, led by terrorist Milan Radoičić, attacked the Kosovo Police. Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed in the attack, and others were wounded.
Special forces shot and killed three Serbs, while other members of the terrorist group fled toward Serbia through mountain routes.
The group of about 50 people, led by chief terrorist Milan Radoičić – sanctioned by the United States and wanted by local institutions for involvement in murder – dressed in military uniforms, had taken positions in and around the Banjska Monastery.
Nearly a year after the attack, on September 11, the Special Prosecution filed an indictment, naming Radoičić as one of the main accused as the leader of the group. According to the indictment, they committed the criminal offense of “Committing a terrorist act” and the criminal offense of “Serious crimes against the constitutional order and security of the Republic of Kosovo.” Some of them are also accused of financing the group and money laundering.
Serbia has still not extradited the Banjska criminals, despite repeated requests from local authorities and several international allies.
