Osmani may hold a press conference this afternoon, possibly regarding the “presidency” issue

Vjosa Osmani has just one month left as the President of the Republic of Kosovo. On April 5, she is expected to leave the presidency, unless some “magical” development occurs in the meantime that would allow her to serve another term, KosovaPress writes.

The chances of this happening are extremely slim. No one is proposing her as a candidate for president again. Vetëvendosje, the party that brought her to the top of the state, including the presidency on April 4, 2021, has decided to give its support for a new president to Glauk Konjufca.

Konjufca’s boss in the party and government, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, has avoided communications with Osmani in recent days. Even today, during the solemn session of the Assembly commemorating the KLA Epic, he kept himself away from any interaction with Osmani. She did the same, choosing to leave the session before Kurti, without exchanging any communication with him.

The PDK, on the other hand, insists that the head of state should be someone proposed by their party and that the candidate does not necessarily have to be a member of this political party, according to Bedri Hamza. However, Vjosa Osmani’s name has not been mentioned as a potential “solution” proposed or preferred by the Democratic Party.

The LDK has remained more indifferent on this matter, not officially stating whether they support Osmani’s candidacy. Still, sources from the party said they might have votes for her.

Osmani, who finds herself in an “unexpected” situation, has not personally commented on these developments, which do not foresee her being nominated by any party for the presidency.

However, her office stated that she might speak on the topic today at a potential press conference.

“It is expected, perhaps, this afternoon. We will inform you,” said her spokesperson Bekim Kupina when journalists asked whether Osmani would hold a press conference today.
