The Jashari family and Prekaz are a symbol of Kosovo’s freedom, said the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu.
Speaking at the solemn session of the Assembly marking the 28th anniversary of the KLA Epic, Haxhiu said that after Prekaz, the KLA became an irreversible reality and the struggle and its goals took a new path.
During her speech, Haxhiu emphasized that the sacrifice of the Jashari family remains the foundation of the nation’s memory and resistance.
“In three days of fighting, the entire history of Kosovo passed through the Jasharis and their resistance, through their determination not to leave their land. Their three-day struggle was not just for one family; it was for a people who refused to surrender and be subjugated. By the end of those three days, the elderly who had seen much, men and women in their prime, and children just beginning life were killed. Their sacrifice remains not only a source of pain but the foundation of our nation’s memory and resistance,” Haxhiu said.
The Assembly Speaker stressed that the KLA Epic represents courage, sacrifice, and determination for freedom that cannot be altered by history.
“The occupying forces ordered the attack, thinking they were extinguishing a center of resistance, but in reality, they only opened a chapter that would never close. After Prekaz, the KLA was no longer a scattered structure; it became an irreversible reality, and the struggle and its goals took a new, very clear form. The KLA Epic is not just an event; it is an enduring message: courage, sacrifice, determination, and the love of freedom cannot change the course of history,” she emphasized.
