Osmani calls on citizens to vote: Democracy is strengthened through participation

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has called for massive citizen participation in today’s local elections.

After casting her vote in the capital, the head of state said she hopes today’s electoral process will go smoothly, as this is how the country’s democracy grows stronger.

In addition, President Osmani spoke about Serbia’s interference in Kosovo’s electoral process after being asked about gatherings of citizens organized by the Serb List in North Mitrovica to vote in an organized manner.

Citizens of the Republic of Kosovo are exercising their constitutional right to vote today. These are the regular local elections, held across 38 municipalities of Kosovo.

According to data from the Central Election Commission (CEC), the number of citizens eligible to vote at polling centers is 2,069,098. Of these, 43,993 registered voters are from outside Kosovo.

Voting by mail began on September 17 and ended yesterday, October 11.

The total number of political entities certified to participate in these elections is 93, including: 32 political parties, 2 coalitions, 32 civic initiatives, and 27 independent candidates.

The total number of certified candidates representing these political entities is 5,624, of whom 205 are running for mayoral elections and 5,419 for municipal assembly elections.

Polling centers opened at 07:00 and will close at 19:00. This period is considered election silence.
