Kosovo’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has unanimously certified the results of the June 7 elections.
In these elections, the first-place party was the Vetëvendosje Movement, securing 47.13 percent of the vote, or 53 seats in the Assembly. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) ranked second with 19.44 percent, winning 22 seats. Meanwhile, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), with 16.69 percent, secured 18 seats, while the Alliance received 6.74 percent and won seven seats. Non-majority communities secured 20 seats, KosovaPress reports.
The certification of the results paves the way for the formation of new institutions, with the Assembly having a 30-day deadline to convene and be constituted.
CEC Chairperson Kreshnik Radoniqi said that the certification came after the Supreme Court rejected appeals related to the election results.
“Based on the latest decisions we received from the Supreme Court, there was no obligation for the CEC. All appeals were rejected, therefore the way was opened for the certification of the results. Meanwhile, we also communicated once again with the Election Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP) and received confirmation that there are no pending complaints related to the electoral process,” he said.
Meanwhile, Radoniqi announced that AAK leader Ardian Gjini and senior party official Daut Haradinaj have withdrawn from their seats in the Assembly. They were replaced by the next candidates on the list, Bekë Berisha and Burim Ramadani.
“There is a change in the ranking within the Alliance. Ardian Gjini is replaced by Bekë Berisha, while Daut Haradinaj is replaced by Burim Ramadani,” he stated.
The Constitution stipulates that following certification, the constitutive session of the Assembly must be held within 30 days. During this session, the Speaker of the Assembly and deputy speakers must be elected, after which procedures for the formation of the Government, or even the election of the president, can proceed.
