Chief State Prosecutor of Kosovo officially assumes office

Kosovo’s newly appointed Chief State Prosecutor, Zejnulla Gashi, said during the handover ceremony that he will work on strengthening the rule of law.

Gashi officially assumed office today from former Acting Chief State Prosecutor Agron Qalaj.

The new Chief State Prosecutor said he will be the prosecutor for everyone and will cooperate with justice institutions to strengthen the rule of law.

“Having just assumed office, I thank my colleagues for the trust given. I will be the Chief State Prosecutor for everyone, and together we will work to strengthen the rule of law,” he said.

Asked by the media whether he was appointed to this position thanks to the Vetëvendosje Movement, Gashi did not respond.

Meanwhile, Qalaj wished Gashi success in his new position.

“Dear Chief State Prosecutor Zejnulla Gashi, welcome to the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor. In my capacity as acting chief prosecutor until now, I officially hand over the office to you and invite you to take over the management and leadership in accordance with the law. Success,” he said.

Acting President Albulena Haxhiu yesterday decreed Zejnulla Gashi as Chief State Prosecutor.

Haxhiu said that after receiving the proposal and documentation from the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, a careful and comprehensive review of the submitted materials was conducted, including relevant information provided by competent security institutions and reports from organizations that monitored the selection process.
