Head of the parliamentary group of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Besnik Tahiri, has called on the Assembly of Kosovo to establish the Eliot Engel Award, as well as to place a commemorative memorial within the legislative building in honour of the American congressman.
At the Assembly’s commemorative session dedicated to US Congressman Eliot Engel, the head of AAK MPs said that Engel was a steadfast supporter of Kosovo in its process of freedom, state-building, and independence.
Tahiri, whose party initiated the session, called for the Assembly to establish the Eliot Engel Award to be given to American friends and personalities who have contributed to strengthening Kosovo–US partnership.
Engel passed away recently. He was one of the strongest supporters of Kosovo. His unwavering support over decades made him a well-known figure in Kosovo.
Kosovo has named a street and a highway in his honour and has even issued a postage stamp featuring his image. /KosovaPress/
