At the Faculty of Medicine, the Institute of Pharmacy has been launched today, a move considered an important step in strengthening higher education and advancing the country’s healthcare sector. The institute is expected to play a key role in ensuring the quality of medicines for patients.
The Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hajrullah Ceku, described the launch as a very important moment for the University of Prishtina and for the development of higher education in the country.
He stressed that this is not only an organisational step, but also a strengthening of the link between education, profession, and the real needs of society.
“The reforms we are advancing in education see higher education not only as a space for teaching, but as a driver of knowledge, innovation and development. In this context, we have clearly defined increased support for science and the orientation of universities towards research and applied profiling. The Institute of Pharmacy is precisely an example of this approach. It creates opportunities for the university to not only be a place for the transfer of knowledge, but a place where knowledge is produced through research, analysis and cooperation with practice. In a sector such as pharmacy, and you know this better than all of us, scientific research is a necessity. It is directly linked to the quality of healthcare services, product safety and the development of the pharmaceutical industry,” said Minister Çeku.
The Rector of the University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina”, Arben Hajrullahu, said that if nothing else, this institute must ensure that medicine quality in the country is guaranteed and serves the public.
He underlined that the institute has enormous potential to further contribute to fulfilling the mission of the university.
“One of the functions we must fulfil is to connect science as closely as possible with industry, for the benefit of the economy and society. I strongly believe that this institute truly has the potential, and also the will, which I have seen even years ago in a meeting with colleagues from the pharmacy department, as well as considering the support that exists within the Faculty of Medicine and the University of Prishtina… People in Kosovo, patients, everyone deserves to be guaranteed that they receive quality medicines, that those medicines contain what is written on the packaging. And I know that there are often difficulties and perhaps even wrongdoing in this regard. So, if nothing else, this institute should be strongly strengthened to ensure that in our country we have healthcare centres that truly guarantee the quality of medicines,” he said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Prishtina, Sefedin Mucaj, expressed the institution’s readiness to contribute to the development of education and healthcare in the country.
He highlighted the importance of the Institute of Pharmacy as a key step in strengthening scientific research, linking theory with practice, and improving the quality of studies.
“The Faculty of Medicine, University of Prishtina, has been and remains committed to actively contributing to the development of education and healthcare in the country. In this regard, the Institute of Pharmacy represents for us a platform for advancing scientific research in the field of pharmacy, a mechanism for strengthening the link between education and professional practice, and a concrete step towards improving the quality of our study programmes,” he said.
The Director of the Institute of Pharmacy, Pranvera Breznica-Selmani, said that today marks the institutionalisation of “a vision that aims to closely connect academia and professional practice.”
