First floor of paraclinical institutes at UCCK renovated, Kurti: Transformation is fundamental

Around 650,000 euros have been invested in the renovation of the Institute of Pathological Anatomy, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said. Together with the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia, he attended the inauguration of the renovated premises, stating that the transformation is fundamental.

Kurti pledged that “the transformation, clinic by clinic, will continue until a fundamental and qualitative change in public health and healthcare is achieved.”

“650,000 euros is the total amount of this investment for the complete renovation of the first floor of the paraclinical institutes, covering a total area of about 1,000 square meters, or more precisely 976 square meters. The transformation is fundamental, with only the supporting walls and floor slabs preserved, while all other spaces have been rebuilt and newly equipped. As part of this project, two laboratories have been expanded and equipped with modern inventory: the immunohistochemistry laboratory and the molecular pathology laboratory. The rooms for pathologists have also been reorganized to accommodate more specialists, and the supporting spaces for daily work have been made functional,” he said.

He also noted that the sample areas, the service desk in the corridor, the guard’s room, student halls, and the offices of pathology professors have been renovated as well.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Arben Vitia said that this institute is of extraordinary importance, especially for the Oncology Clinic.

“An institute of extraordinary importance because the work done here guides clinicians, especially the Oncology Clinic, so that patients can be treated in the best and fastest possible way. As the director also said, we are working to activate molecular pathology as soon as possible so it can help oncology patients with targeted therapy, ensuring they receive the best treatment while also avoiding unnecessary costs for therapies that may not be effective,” Vitia said.

He added that 2026 will be the year of diagnostics, as investments will be made in all laboratories with the newest technologies.

The director of the Institute of Pathological Anatomy, Merita Hashani, said that the first floor of the institute has been completely transformed.

“This transformation has created new working conditions, increasing the quality of healthcare services at the Institute of Pathology, and in this way the investment will directly contribute to the well-being of citizens. The Institute of Pathological Anatomy is a reference institute at the level of Kosovo. Samples are received here from the University Clinical Center of Kosovo and almost all regional hospitals. Biopsies, cytology tests, and autopsies are carried out for all these levels, and the techniques we use are advanced. We will continue to further develop more modern techniques thanks to science and technology. We also aim to expand the range of services, starting with nephropathology, which we intend to introduce soon as a new service,” she said.
