There is strong interest among Kosovo citizens living in the diaspora to participate in elections in Kosovo, and this interest has significantly increased after each election cycle. The preferred method of voting from the diaspora has been observed to be voting through postal ballots outside Kosovo.
Meanwhile, according to the organization Germin, the main challenge remains informing citizens.
At the roundtable organized by Germin on the topic “Voting from abroad, the diaspora in the elections for the Assembly of Kosovo,” director Lirim Krasniqi said that the electoral impact of diaspora votes has increased.
“The interest of the diaspora in participating in elections after each electoral cycle has increased, and with it the electoral impact of diaspora votes has also increased… Over 64 percent of people who voted from abroad voted by post, through postal boxes that the CEC has opened outside Kosovo, and this number increased even further in December 2025. This is the most preferred form of voting, the easiest, most efficient and fastest,” Krasniqi said.
According to him, one of the main challenges remains informing citizens abroad about the voting procedures and the location of polling centers and postal boxes outside Kosovo.
Krasniqi recommended that the locations of polling centers outside Kosovo be clearly defined.
At this discussion table, representatives of political parties were also invited.
Apart from the representative of the Vetëvendosje Movement, no other political party participated.
The representative of LVV, Liza Gashi, recalled that in 2010 there were only 5,000 diaspora votes, while today this number has increased significantly.
Regarding information efforts, Gashi said that more work is still needed to properly inform the diaspora.
So far, nearly 110,000 diaspora voting applications have been approved for the June 7, 2026 elections. Meanwhile, in the December 28, 2025 elections, 77,000 had been registered.
