The Union of Workers of Radio Television of Kosovo (SPERTK) has addressed an urgent letter to the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, requesting her immediate intervention to unblock RTK’s budget.

In the letter, signed by the SPERTK leadership, the union emphasizes that RTK is in financial collapse, while employees “have not received their salaries for weeks,” severely affecting the lives of hundreds of families who depend on this public institution.

“RTK has been in financial collapse for several weeks, and employees have not received their salaries. This situation is having a severe impact on the lives of hundreds of families who rely on this public institution. Among them are employees who cannot afford necessary medicines, face difficulties in paying for food, rent, and basic expenses, and who now feel forgotten by the country’s institutions,” the union’s letter states.

SPERTK also warns that the situation has worsened as banks have started pressuring employees to repay loan installments, while they have not received any salaries.

“The situation has become even more serious as banks have started pressuring employees to pay loan installments, while they have not received any monthly income,” the letter reads.

Referring to President Osmani’s statement earlier today, in which she expressed her willingness to propose in the Assembly the allocation of RTK’s budget, the union considered this a positive step and requested that it be implemented as soon as possible.

“We kindly ask you, within your constitutional and political competencies, to intervene immediately to help unblock RTK’s budget and to ensure the normal functioning of this independent public institution,” the letter addressed to the President continues.

RTK union members have called on institutions not to allow the financial crisis to turn into a social crisis, warning that the situation is worsening day by day. RTK employees have announced another protest on Thursday due to the non-payment of salaries for 700 staff members.
