Women in Germany earn almost a fifth less per hour than men. At the same time, these differences are smaller in the east than in the west.

Women in Germany still receive on average lower wages per hour of work than men. In 2022, women earned an average of 20.05 euros per hour, which means 4.31 euros or 18% less than men (who, on average, are paid 24.36 euros per hour of work in Germany). At the same time, as reported by the Federal Statistics Office, the income gap in the eastern parts of Germany is currently seven percent, which is a contrast to the western parts of the country, where women are paid 19 percent less than men for the same job...
