Kosovo reached the World Cup 2026 playoff final, where it was defeated by Turkey 1–0 in Prishtina.

The prominent performance of Kosovo’s national football team in the qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was also discussed today in the Kosovo Assembly.

MP Bylbyl Sokoli from the Vetëvendosje Movement said in the session that the players showed dedication, sacrifice, and a competitive spirit, ensuring that Kosovo’s name is heard and respected on the international stage.

"During the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup that will be held in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico, our players represented our state with dignity and pride. They showed dedication, sacrifice and a competitive spirit, making Kosovo’s name heard and respected on the international stage. This performance was not only a sports competition but also a strong message that Kosovo has talent, will, and potential to achieve even more. Today more than ever, young athletes have access to national and international competitions, which represents an extraordinary opportunity for their development and recognition,” Sokoli said.

However, he called for greater investment in modern sports infrastructure to achieve even better results in the future.

“However, in order to achieve even greater results in the future, our athletes need even stronger support. Kosovo needs modern sports infrastructure, better development conditions, and a clear and functional legal framework that supports sport,” he said.
