After the closure of a sewage pipe that resulted in water entering several classrooms at the Ismail Qemali Primary School in Pristina, the sanitary inspectorate visited the school and issued recommendations.

Yesterday, parents protested in front of the school, demanding that the problem be resolved as soon as possible.

The school principal, Mimoza Krasniqi, told KosovaPress that the educational process is continuing normally, as work has begun to fix the sewage pipe leak.

“Due to water leaks in the school basement, four morning-shift and four afternoon-shift classes—eight classes in total—were affected. Naturally, the parents were upset, thinking no solution was being implemented, and held a protest. However, although the solution is not yet complete, work has started to fix the external manhole of the school. Today, precisely regarding this issue, the sanitary inspectorate visited to check whether a solution had been implemented and whether measures were taken by the school administration and the education authorities. They inspected the classrooms, saw the start of repair work, and concluded that plastering of the basement is necessary. Other recommendations have also already started to be implemented. The manhole must be repaired, and there must be cooperation with the public housing company to ensure the manhole is fixed according to the standards set by the inspectorate,” she said.

Yesterday, several students of “Ismail Qemali” Primary School and their parents protested in front of the school, demanding proper conditions for learning after the “burst of a sewage pipe.”

“There are no conditions, no lessons,” “School without conditions, future without hope,” were some of the signs the students held yesterday. While the afternoon shift continued classes on Tuesday, fifth-grade students completely boycotted lessons.

Parents expressed their dissatisfaction with the school’s hygienic conditions due to this problem and joined the protest.
