Former Speaker of Parliament Kadri Veseli said that "justice may be delayed but it cannot be denied."

"I know who I am, what I have done and what I have not done… My actions have been lawful," he said.

"The Court must at all costs protect the truth, justice, and impartiality. Even in the darkest moments, I never lost faith that the truth would triumph. Freedom cannot be achieved through injustice. My family and I have lived under continuous persecution.

I know what it means to live under constant threat; this is an experience I would not wish on anyone. After decades of investigations and documents, there is no evidence that I committed any crimes," Veseli added.

He said he returned to Kosovo because he could not remain indifferent to the suffering his people were experiencing.
