The Kosovo Police, yesterday as part of the implementation of the operational plan “Illegal Migration,” during surveillance of the border line near the Hani i Elezit border crossing point, observed a suspicious person escorting three individuals on foot from the village of Bllacë (North Macedonia) towards the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.

According to the statement, the suspected persons, after illegally crossing the border line, upon reaching the road between the two border crossing points, continued their movement in a vehicle that was allegedly waiting for them.

“As a result of the actions of the border patrol units, the suspicious vehicle was stopped, in which two suspected male citizens of the Republic of Kosovo were found, as well as three migrant citizens of India, who were caught in the act of smuggling,” the statement reads, as reported by KosovaPress.

It further states that, by order of the competent prosecutor, a case has been initiated for “Smuggling of migrants,” while one of the suspects has been placed in 48-hour detention, while the other suspect, after being interviewed in the presence of a defense lawyer, was released in regular procedure.

“The three migrants were taken to the Migrant Reception Center, where they were processed by the Migration and Foreigners Unit. Also, by order of the prosecutor, the suspected vehicle with local license plates, as well as a mobile phone, were confiscated as material evidence,” the statement adds.

The Kosovo Police remains committed to preventing and combating cross-border crime, safeguarding the state border, and ensuring security for all citizens.
