The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) does not have a vote for Vjosa Osmani, said the head of the party’s deputies, Arian Tahiri, KosovaPress reports.
In a statement to the media on Thursday, he said that if there is no consensus on the election of the country’s next president, they are ready for new elections.
Does PDK have a vote for Vjosa Osmani?
“I am not going to name specific individuals. The country is not served by someone who had a one-sided approach yesterday and represents only one party or group. We are talking about someone above political parties,” he said. What kind of presidential candidate does PDK support?
“The country is served, and PDK supports someone who does not represent only one political party, not just the government or the opposition, but someone who represents both and the citizens who do not vote for the president directly. Someone with contributions, an intellectual who honors the state and the people of Kosovo. We continue with these principles in mind. We have not yet discussed specific names. PDK’s will is to contribute in the interest of the country’s institutions and society, but if no one can be elected and the main political force does not have the disposition, PDK is ready to go to elections,” he said.
“There have not been discussions for a political agreement. That issue ended when the government was formed. PDK is not interested in a political deal, but wants to have a proactive and supportive approach toward the institutions. If necessary and reasonable, PDK will certainly put forward a name,” Tahiri added.
“For the timing and meetings, I am not competent and do not have information,” Tahiri concluded.
Vjosa Osmani is currently the only person who has expressed ambitions to run for a second five-year term. To officially register her candidacy, she must collect thirty signatures from deputies. Moreover, for the Assembly session to be convened to elect the president, there must be two candidates officially registered, each with thirty signatures from deputies.
